As if the original owner of our house couldn’t get any cooler, we found out that he was really good friends with Charles Dickens!!!!!! There is an article in the New York Herald from February 19th, 1842 about the fancy dinner party at the City Hotel honoring Charles Dickens. McCoun( the original owner of my house)attended the party!!! The article goes into great detail and describes the tasteful decorations, the gold candelabras with wax candles, 130 gas lite chandeliers throughout the ballroom , 12 marble bust on richly carved antique brakets, and an orchestra who played the song “see the conquering hero”. They even described the entrees that were served that evening! From boiled fresh trout to Charlotte russe and plum pie! The article talks about Dickens laughing all night long and having a heartily ole laugh as well!
